I will be leading a pair of fieldtrips for the Southwold Museum & Historical Society to the Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds and the West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village. The Abbey Gardens are the site of the Anglo-Saxon and medieval monastery of Bury St Edmunds, one of the richest abbeys in England and site of the shrine of St Edmund. The Anglo-Saxon settlement at West Stow was extensively excavated in the 1960s and 70s, and the site then became the focus of an ongoing archaeological experiment testing different reconstructions of Anglo-Saxon buildings.
